Explore the Waveney Valley

Norfolk holiday lodges viewThe Waveney Valley is known for it’s almost unbeatable natural beauty and vast array of wildlife, so it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular destination. The River Waveney flows through the heart of the valley and our luxury lodges for sale are perfectly placed along its bank, giving you beautiful marshland views to enjoy throughout your stay.

The wildlife that can be spotted in the valley includes birds, bugs and small mammals that love the moist environment close to the river. If you decide to take a boat trip along the river, you’re sure to see some amazing sites and plenty of wildlife. Birds are the most commonly seen along the riverbank and on the water. You will see plenty of ducks, swans, wood pigeons and if you’re lucky, some of the herons that patrol the area looking for tasty fish to eat. Kingfishers have also been spotted in the area & so have Bitterns, which are one of the rarest species of birds on the Norfolk Broads & in the Waveney Valley. By taking a boat trip, you will also stand the best chance of seeing an Otter, as these lovely little creatures love the water and are usually spotted close to the riverbank. Seeing them on foot is a little harder, as they will rarely venture onto footpaths or too far away from the riverbank. However, if you prefer insects to anything else then we would definitely recommend taking a walk along the Angles Way, as the unspoiled natural surroundings create the perfect haven for all types of bugs including swallowtail butterflies, Norfolk Hawker dragonflies and Cinnabar moths. If you continue walking west along this popular walk you will head further into the scenic valley. If you head east, the path will take you to Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve & Oulton Broad, two very popular sites that are well worth a visit.

After some time in the tranquil surroundings of the countryside, why not head into civilisation and explore one of the towns & villages within the Waveney Valley. Beccles is one of the larger and more popular towns in the area and offers some lovely sights & entertainment. It can also be reached by following the River Waveney from Waveney River Centre, so why not take a boat and enjoy the views along the way. There is also the towns of Diss, Bungay and Harleston, as well as many other towns and villages within easy reach of our lodges.
