Although it would take quite a bit longer than if you were to take the car, it’s definitely worth the extra travel time, as you will be able to relax as you travel while taking in the beautiful sites of the surrounding Waveney Valley and seeing some of the fantastic wildlife that lives in the area, whether it’s the fish in the river, the birds in the sky, or the small animals that run free on dry land.

Once you’ve reached Beccles, you will have plenty of streets to explore and places to visit. If you’ve chosen to arrive by car, you won’t have a problem finding somewhere to park, as there are numerous pay and display parking areas within the town, just keep an eye out for the parking signposts that will point you in the right direction. If arriving by boat, there are also plenty of places to moor, however there will most likely be a small mooring fee by the hour or for the whole day. This is flexible and fairly cheap and if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to grab a free mooring spot along the town side of the river. Along this stretch of the River Waveney, close to the southwest side of the town is where you will find Big Dog Ferry. This boating tour service allows you to see the sights a little further to the west along the river, which is perfect if you’re not too confident taking a boat that far or would rather sit back, take in the sights and let someone else do the steering. If you decide to head straight into town, you will find a selection of the most popular high street shops, including boots, as well as many fantastic pubs and restaurants where you can enjoy a freshly cooked meal. One of the most popular establishments that serve refreshing drinks and lovely grub is the Bear & Bells. Here you will have an excellent range of dishes to choose from, so whether you fancy a filled fresh baguette, a spicy curry, steak and chips or a full roast dinner, you definitely won’t be short of choice!

On the first and third Saturday of every month is when you will be able to enjoy the Beccles farmers market. Here you can pick up some of the freshest food products available in the area that include meat, fish (fresh & smoked), cheese, milk, ice-cream, vegetables, fruit, bread, pies, cakes, eggs, chutneys, jams, pickles and freshly brewed ales from the many local breweries in the area. This is definitely the place to come if you want to pick up some fresh ingredients and get some new ideas for meals to cook while enjoying a holiday away in your luxury lodges. If you can’t wait to try out the food before you get back, why not sample the bbq or grab a snack and a coffee from the café. By the time you decide to make the journey back to your lodge for the evening, we’re sure that you would have had a thoroughly enjoyable day and thanks to Beccles being only a short distance away, you can do it all again anytime.
